Alabama massacre
A GUNMAN went on a two-town shooting spree killing nine people before shooting himself. Police are investigating four separate shootings believed to have been done by one gunman.

U.S. Army soldiers from Ft. Rucker patrol the downtown area of Samson, Alabama. Michael McLendon, 27, began the killing spree in Samson, a town of 2,000 in the southeast of the state, and continued it in nearby Geneva, killing members of his own family and attacking at least one victim along his journey on Highway 52.
A bullet hole in a window and American flag is seen as investigators enter Bradley True Value Hardware. The witnesses gave the names of the victims to a local newspaper, but they were withheld last night by the police. The gunman continued his spree at Bradley True-Value Hardware store in nearby Geneva, reportedly firing at vehicles along the way. Geneva is twice the size of Samson.
Employees and friends talk in front of the Big Little store. Warren Beck, a local politician, said that the gunman had worked at Reliable Metal. "My secretary heard gunfire everywhere," he said. "This is one of the most tragic events ever in Geneva County."
