Mount Redoubt
10,000 foot high volcano erupts near Anchorage, Alaska.
Mount Redoubt in Alaska, 100 miles southwest of Anchorage, has been spewing enormous ash clouds after erupting nearly 20 times in the past week
The volcano has simmered down after spreading a layer of gritty volcanic ash over several towns
The Alaska Volcano Observatory said that there were no reports of casualties
A plume rose 25,000ft above sea level after the latest of the eruptions
Scientists at the observatory warned in January that an eruption was imminent
Ash blankets the snow drifts on an old fishing boat in the town of Ninilchik
People with respiratory problems have been warned to stay indoors until the ash settles or to wear a face mask if they go outside
Nikiski, about 50 miles from Redoubt, is among the worst-hit communities
The eruption caused massive mudslides in the Drift River Valley
The valley is home to the Drift River Terminal, which contains 6.2 million gallons of oil
