96-year-old man writes ‘Oh Sweet Lorraine,’ breaks all our hearts

Fred Stobaugh, 96, lost his wife, Lorraine, of 72 years this past May.

Sitting in his front room one day this summer, the song "Oh Sweet Lorraine" came to him. Stobaugh, not a singer or a songwriter, penned his first song, put the lyrics and a letter in a manila envelope and sent them to Green Shoe Studio, which was holding a songwriting competition for YouTube videos.

His submission arrived in the mail and "Oh Sweet Lorraine" was recorded in a studio. Watch the mini doc, A Letter from Fred, below, to see how it happened (please excuse me while I wipe all the ugly cry off my face).
